I've been debating getting a part time job for a while. I manage our finances, and though I think I do pretty well, things are very tight for us. I think had I not gotten pregnant, I would not have decided to get a job, but with a 3rd little one coming and a HUGE insurance deductible I decided I had to do something or we would be swamped by the hospital bills.
So I went out a few nights about a month ago and filled out applications at several stores at our local mall. About a week later I got a call from Gymboree. Within just a few days I had an interview, was hired, and started working. I'm just going to be working 2 or 3 evenings a week so I don't feel like I'm neglecting my family in any way. Actually, so far I've enjoyed the time being a working adult instead of just a mom. I love being a mom, but as all you stay at home moms know, it can get SO draining. Now I feel like I am getting some breaks during the week to focus on something besides the needs of my darling kids. Granted, I do spend a lot of my time at work talking about them with my coworkers or oohing over the adorable clothes that I think would be so cute on Megan or Kyle. And need I mention the 40% discount I get as an employee! Woohoo! I haven't bought anything yet, but I've had my eye on some cute things. I keep reminding myself that the money I make is designated for medical bills, but I might let myself splurge every once in a while.

I would TOTALLY love to work at a children's clothing store just for the discount. But I had a few years of the retail experience (full time) and I've had enough.
Be careful about being on your feet as your pregnancy progresses. I'm sure you don't have 8 hour shifts, but still, please be careful!
Aww yay I'm glad you are enjoying your job so far. :) I think that would be awesome. I've definitely thought about doing it too. And what an awesome discount! 40%!!
I'm tagging you...

Good luck with all that Melissa! I know how you feel with the bills. With our three on a single income family, and them being old enough to start getting into activities, it's a REAL strain sometimes! It's about time I start thinking about finding something part-time but Dan's schedule varies so much I can't always count on him being home at a certain time to be our "babysitter" for the kids!! LOL
who wouldnt want a 40% discount?! Since Ive started working again Ive noticed a huge change in myself - for the better. I love feeling like im contributing financially, while still being the sole caregiver of my children. It definately can be stressful, but for me its well worth it. :) See ya on PW!!!
